Payments and refunds
Updated 09/02/2026
Who you pay
Online payments are processed by Stripe. The service you book is the merchant, so the charge goes to the service and the service is responsible for refunds. Inscramble never holds your payment.
Ways to pay
The service chooses one of these for each product.
- Pay online: enter your card right after confirming the booking.
- Deposit: pay part of the total online at booking and the rest on site on the day. The summary shows the 'Pay now' and 'Pay on site' amounts.
- Pay in person: there's no online payment. You pay on the day of your visit.
If the service approves bookings by hand, an online payment is only held on your card and charged once the service approves. If it declines or doesn't respond in time, the hold is released and nothing is charged.
If you don't finish paying
When you start an online payment, your time slot is held for 30 minutes. If you don't complete the payment in that time, or you leave the page, the hold ends and the slot opens up again. You'll see 'Payment time expired' and can book again from the service's page. Nothing is charged for an expired hold.
If your card is declined, the message says what to check, such as the balance or the expiry date. Try again or use a different card.
In rare cases another booking for the same time is confirmed while you're finishing payment. Your booking is then cancelled and you're refunded in full.
Refunds
Refunds follow the service's refund policy, which is set per product and shown before you confirm.
- If you cancel, the refund is a percentage of what you paid, based on how long before the start time you cancel. Close to the start it can be zero. With a deposit, the percentage applies to the deposit, and the balance is never charged.
- Some services refund 100% if you cancel within 2 hours of booking, or within 2 hours of payment if that came later. The booking summary says so when it applies.
- If the service cancels, or doesn't respond in time and the booking is cancelled, you get a full refund.
- Refunds for in-person payments are handled between you and the service.
A booking is for a specific date and time, so there's no general cooling-off period. The Refund & Cancellation Policy has the full terms.
